Tickets are still available for this weekend's benefit concert to raise money for north Minneapolis tornado recovery.
Organizers say they've sold around 300 tickets so far for a venue that seats about 2,000 people. They say they're hoping to fill the State Theatre in Minneapolis on Sunday.
"Northside: A Twin Cities Community Benefit" features prominent Twin Cities recording artists and emcees, and aims to raise $100,000 for people who lost homes or businesses in the May 22 tornado. Organizer Martin Keller says all talent, space and staffing for the event has been donated.
"We've got hip-hop, we've got R&B, we've got gospel choirs, we've got rock bands like Soul Asylum, Billy McLaughlin, who is well known, a now legendary musician here," Keller said. "It is going to blow people away and we have some new faces as well "
All proceeds raised will go to the Hennepin Theater, which plans to distribute the funds to local groups for an emergency fund, and to pay for food and neighborhood rebuilding.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or at the State Theatre box office on Hennepin Avenue.
