ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Wild have decided they need a younger team and Mike Yeo will lead the project.
Yeo was introduced Friday as the Wild's new coach. The 37-year-old Yeo spent one season as coach of their top farm club in Houston, impressing the organization with his leadership and success. The Houston Aeros advanced to the American Hockey League finals.
Yeo never played in the NHL, but he says he's known he wanted to be an NHL coach since he was a teenager. He says he's confident he'll be able to tackle the challenges of the job.
Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher spent more than two months on the search process. He says Yeo became more and more clear to him as the right fit.
