St. Paul, Minn. -- Heavy rains are prompting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to increase the outflow from a western Minnesota dam.
The corps plans Friday to increase the outflow from Lac Qui Parle Dam northwest of Montevideo o 7,000 cubic feet per second, up from 4,500 cubic feet per second
Because of heavy rains Monday and Tuesday, inflows have exceeded outflows, and discharge must be increased to keep the pool below the emergency spillway.
The pool has climbed one foot during the past two days.
