MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - House minority leader Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Reps. Keith Ellison and Tim Walz will participate in a public forum about the ongoing famine in the Horn of Africa.
The forum is being held Wednesday at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Leaders of the Somali community in Minneapolis and officials with USAID and the American Refugee Committee will also participate.
Five regions in Somalia are suffering from famine and officials say that will increase in coming weeks. There's also widespread hunger in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti.
The United Nations estimates that more than 12 million people need help, including about 3.7 million Somalis who currently need aid.
