WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) -- In the oil boom town of Williston, the city's welcome mat includes a pair of strip clubs adjacent to the Amtrak train depot.
Most cities work to enhance their entry points as a matter of public pride and to market the communities to potential businesses. But first impressions matter little in Williston, where the economy is exploding and jobs outnumber takers.
Whispers Nightclub and Heartbreakers Gentleman's Club are sore-thumb standouts on the first block of the city's Main Street and are kitty-corner from the chamber of commerce headquarters and the downtown senior center.
Mayor Ward Koeser says he doesn't like the image the strip club's portray.
Owners of the strip clubs did not return telephone calls from The Associated Press or messages left for them at the businesses.
