MESABI, Minn. (AP) -- Republican U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack is criticizing new federal regulations on industrial emissions that exceed what the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency requires.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has begun implementing the new rules, which will put stricter limits on emissions by companies that include six taconite plants in northeastern Minnesota.
Cravaack released a statement Friday saying the MPCA has already proven that it can do a good job of regulating environmental laws. He says under President Barack Obama's administration, the EPA "has Minnesota jobs in its crosshairs."
A Mesabi Daily News report says the EPA's rules are intended to cut down on haze and improve air quality.
The EPA will hold a public meeting on the matter Aug. 29 in St. Paul.
