A former accounting director for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has been charged with failing to pay taxes and filing false returns.

Scott Domeier, 51, is accused of stealing more than $670,000 from the archdiocese to pay off his credit cards, fund private school tuition for his children and pay other personal expenses. While Domeier was charged in June with seven counts of theft by swindle, he faces new charges of failing to claim the embezzled money as income.

The tax charges carry a maximum penalty of up to five years and a $10,000 fine.

Domeier was accounting services director for the archdiocese between February 1995 and January 2012. He was placed on administrative leave in January after after the archdiocese hired an accounting firm and uncovered financial discrepancies.
