The five leading DFL candidates for mayor of Minneapolis debate for the first time today at noon on Wednesday.
The debate at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School is designed to help DFL voters decide which candidate to support ahead of precinct caucuses on April 16. Delegates elected that day will decide this summer which -- if any -- of the candidates to endorse.
The DFL field includes three current city council members: Betsy Hodges, Don Samuels and Gary Schiff. Former Council President Jackie Cherryhomes is also running, as is former Hennepin County Board Chair Mark Andrew. Today's debate will be the first time the five appear together as candidates.
The Minneapolis DFL website also lists political unknown Grant Haas as a candidate. He is not part of the debate. Neither is Cam Winton, an attorney who's not seeking any party endorsement in the race. Winton says he'll be in the audience.
