Rapid snowmelt is causing flooding concerns along some rivers and streams in northeast Minnesota.
The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the Mississippi River near Aitkin, Minn., and the St. Louis River near Scanlon, Minn.
Officials are closely monitoring swollen streams running down the hillside through Duluth, Fire Chief John Strongitharm said.
"We're watching the creeks. They are flowing really heavy and we're seeing some differences in how the creeks are actually flowing," Strongitharm said. "It's impacting areas at the zoo and it's impacting areas near Lincoln Park, and I'm sure other areas around the town."
No homes are affected so far, Strongitharm said. More rain and snow is expected in the Duluth area over the next few days, but the brunt of the storm is expected to hit northwest Wisconsin.
