Mark Andrew leading race for Minneapolis DFL mayoral endorsement

Minneapolis Mayoral candidate Mark Andrew is leading the race for the DFL endorsement. Andrew won almost 36 percent of the first ballot cast at the city endorsing convention. Sixty percent is needed for endorsement.  Delegates will take at least five votes before the convention can adjourn without an endorsement.

Betsy Hodges trailed Andrew with about 26 percent. Gary Schiff had less than 24 percent.

The first ballot eliminated three candidates from contention.  Don Samuels, Jackie Cherryhomes and Jim Thomas failed to meet the 10 percent threshold to continue on to the second ballot.

Andrew, Hodges and Schiff have all pledged to drop out of the race if another candidate wins endorsement. The other three candidates had already vowed to continue their campaigns.
