Sen. Amy Klobuchar's scheduled appearance at Democratic fundraiser in Iowa Friday evening is causing speculation she may be interested in a presidential run.

Klobuchar will speak in Clear Lake, Iowa, at a high-profile fundraiser hosted by Democrats from several of the state's northern counties. She was invited by Cerro Gordo County Democratic Party Vice Chairman Dean Genth, who said the senator would be a good presidential candidate if she chose to run.

Genth says the fundraiser will be an opportunity for Klobuchar to meet Iowa Democrats who will play a role in nominating the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate. Past speakers include Barack Obama and Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.

"This year we're just very excited about having Sen. Amy Klobuchar coming as our keynote speaker," Genth said, and that Klobuchar is a "fantastic legislator" who would make a good presidential candidate.

Klobuchar has downplayed the speculation, saying she loves being a Minnesota senator.

"We're just thrilled that she's coming to speak. I think a lot of us in north Iowa want to hear her speak and one way that she can get to know Iowans is by coming and shaking some hands and getting to know us,' Genth said.
