A crew of a dozen construction workers walked into the Metrodome this morning before dawn, the first workers on the first day of work on what will be the new Vikings stadium in downtown Minneapolis.
They went through their safety orientation, got their instructions, and set to work out in the Metrodome parking lot putting up fencing and surveying the electrical connections to get ready for demolition of the Metrodome. They are expected to start tearing up the parking lot's asphalt soon.
Mortenson Construction expects to be on the $763 million stadium project for about 31 months before it is finished. An official groundbreaking is scheduled for next Tuesday.
