On Dec. 29, the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions will battle in the last game to be played inside the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. Demolition of the stadium begins on January 18th in preparation for the construction of a new football stadium for the Vikings.
Before the Minnesota Twins moved to Target Field in 2010, the team shared the Dome with the Vikings. Baseball purists decried the Dome as a terrible venue for a game they felt was meant to be played outside on natural grass. Despite the sterile environment, many of the most significant and memorable games in the history of the Twins were played there.
In collaboration with Twin Cities Public Television's Almanac, MPR News Morning Edition producer Jim Bickal created this musical tribute to the Metrodome's glory days.
