Businessman and political newcomer Mike McFadden raised $600,000 in the first quarter of the year, bringing his total raised to $2.8 million, according to McFadden campaign spokesman Tom Erickson.
But McFadden also spent much of what he raised and ended up adding $100,000 to his campaign cash on hand.
Erickson called McFadden's first quarter 2014 fundraising "strong," saying it "shows Minnesotans are eager for a new Senator."
DFL Sen. Al Franken raised $2.7 million in the first three months of the year. Franken ended March with $5.9 million in campaign cash on hand, more than three times McFadden's $1.8 million.
