Dr. Jerome Groopman and his wife, Dr. Pamela Hartzband, spoke recently at the 2014 Aspen Ideas Festival about how doctors and patients do -- and should -- make complex medical decisions.

Doctors aren't perfect, medical conditions are dynamic, and human beings adapt. Patients and doctors have a medical mindset. Some want maximum, or minimum, treatment. Some have a naturalist orientation, some a technological orientation. Some are believers and some are doubters.
