Chris Ring, swimming the length of the Mississippi River to call attention to Gold Star families, is reaching his first major city on the swim. He'll put into Minneapolis today.
He's reached Coon Rapids where he got an escort from the locals.

Along the way, he's met with families who've lost a loved one to war.
He's also found a little time to play, according to his Facebook page.

He will finish the day today at Lock and Dam No. 1.
Ring has been swimming for 44 days.
