Sen. Bev Scalze, DFL-Little Canada, said Wednesday that she will not seek re-election in 2016.
Scalze is serving her first-term in the Minnesota Senate. But her career in government spans four decades.
Scalze, a wildlife artist, was elected to the Little Canada City Council in 1978 and served for 24 years. She was elected to the Minnesota House in 2004 and served there for eight years. Scalze then won the Senate District 42 seat in 2012. She’s currently vice chair of the Senate Capital Investment Committee.
“I am looking forward having more time to spend with my family, especially my two granddaughters who live in Florida. I am also eager to focus more time and energy on my wildlife art,” Scalze said.
Scalze was a co-author of the 2008 Legacy Amendment, which benefits the state’s natural and cultural resources. She said the passage of that measure was “an important, lasting gift” to future generations.
Sen. Barb Goodwin, DFL-Columbia Heights, announced last month that she’s not seeking re-election next year.
