Today's Morning Edition music is "Hot Pants," by James Brown and the JBs. It came out in 1971 at the beginning of the hot pants fashion craze, which some of us are old enough to remember.

That's one of the songs you may hear tonight at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis, where Sonny Knight and the Lakers will pay tribute to the "Godfather of Soul."

They'll be joined on stage by two men who played in Brown's band in the 1960s and 70s: drummer Jabo Starks and trombonist Fred Wesley. Wesley and James Brown were the co-authors of the song.
