In 2014, Minnesota decriminalized underage prostitution. The "Safe Harbor" law requires that these youth be offered shelter and support rather than locking them up in juvenile detention.
APM Reports/American RadioWorks correspondent Sasha Aslanian produced a documentary, "Bought and Sold: The New Fight Against Teen Sex Trafficking," that looks at what's being done in Minnesota and other parts of the country to help young victims and crack down on traffickers and buyers.
In May, Aslanian joined MPR News host Tom Weber to talk about the documentary and its connection to the state.
The documentary aired in full on MPR News in August 2016.
