Today's Morning Edition music is from "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan, which was number one on the Billboard pop chart 50 years ago.

The song's psychedelic sound was a new direction for Donovan, whose first few records were folksier and got him labeled as a Bob Dylan imitator. Due to a legal dispute, his record label had to wait seven months after it was recorded to release the song. It would become Donovan's first and only No. 1 hit.
