Today's Morning Edition music is from 40 years ago when Jerry Lee Lewis was arrested outside of Graceland, Elvis Presley's home in Memphis, Tenn.
He explained what happened to Playboy's Larry Grobel.
Apparently, Lewis finally decided to go to Graceland after Elvis reached him late one night at the Vapors nightclub in Memphis where he was performing.
He drove over with a pistol on the dashboard and a belly full of champagne. As he pulled into the driveway at Graceland, Lewis hit the gate with his Lincoln and when the guard saw the gun on the dashboard, he called police.
The two rock 'n' roll pioneers never got together that night or ever again. Elvis died 10 months later.
