A development company owned by the Wilf family, which owns the Minnesota Vikings, plans to build a 320-room four-star hotel and conference center in Eagan.

The project pitched by MV Eagan Ventures would be part of the evolving 200-acre Viking Lakes development. It utilizes large portions of the former Northwest Airlines headquarters.

Tom Garrison, a spokesperson for the city of Eagan, says the city could use a hotel and conference center complex.

"We believe there is not enough meeting space in the southeast metro area," he said. "Certainly, MV Eagan Ventures and ownership have a well-deserved reputation for quality."

Garrison expects the city council will likely consider the proposed hotel project in October or November.

Plans already called for Viking Lakes to include more than 3 million square feet of corporate office, medical, retail, entertainment and multi-family housing — All anchored by a new headquarters and training facility for the Minnesota Vikings.

MV Eagan Ventures hopes to complete construction of the 14-story hotel no later than the summer of 2020.

The company says hotel rooms and suites will be "luxurious," featuring an "American Nordic" design based on the aesthetic of Scandinavia.

Suites will range in size up to 2,000 square feet. There would be about 18,000 square feet of meeting space.
