Joan Shelley performs Tuesday night at the Turf Club. Her music is known for being rooted in the sounds of her native Kentucky, but she recorded her latest album in Iceland.

As she told Rolling Stone magazine, when she and her band got to Iceland, they couldn't find a banjo to use on the record, so they ended up tuning a guitar a little differently.
