Tuesday remains cooler than average but comfortable with sunshine and light winds. By Wednesday, rain returns along with a pattern shift that brings in much warmer weather.
Tuesday’s forecast
Tuesday started off very cold again, with temperatures ranging from teens north to low 30s and frost even in southern Minnesota. In far northern Minnesota, International Falls set a record low for the second day in a row by dropping down to 18 degrees.
High temperatures will be slightly milder than Monday, with more of the state in the 50s and the Twin Cities near 60.

This is still about 10 degrees below average, but it will be comfortable under widespread sunshine and lighter winds. Clouds start spreading across the state overnight ahead of rain Wednesday.

Wednesday brings rain
The clouds that move in overnight Tuesday help keep low temperatures from getting as cold, so Wednesday starts much milder and without the frost concerns for southern Minnesota.

Rain showers moving into western Minnesota by early Wednesday will spread throughout the state by Wednesday afternoon.

Isolated thunderstorms are also possible near the Minnesota border. Most of the rain comes on Wednesday, then only spottier showers are expected Thursday as the rain clears out.
Rain totals likely remain low, with most of the state expected to see less than one-quarter inch total through Thursday, although northern Minnesota could see slightly higher amounts.

Another round of rain and possible storms is forecast to move across the state Saturday into Sunday.

Warmer weather returns
Despite warmer winds from the southeast, highs Wednesday stay below average and mostly in the 50s under the clouds and rain.
By Thursday, as rain moves out and more sunshine returns in the afternoon, that warmer airflow into the state will help return temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

Temperatures then remain much more seasonable for May and highs stay in the 60s and 70s through the weekend. Even warmer weather is expected next week, and parts of the state could see their first 80s of the year by Monday or Tuesday!
