Minnesota finishes out June with hot weather

Showers and storms moving into Minnesota spread across the state, bringing a stormy night.  Wet weather moves out quickly Friday, then the weekend stays relatively quiet.

The active weather is associated with a cold front that will continue to move storms across the state Thursday evening and overnight.

For the Twin Cities, storms are most likely move through in the middle of the night. As storms move in, and fueled in part by Thursday’s hot weather, severe storms are likely, especially in western Minnesota through Thursday evening.

In fact, as of 6 p.m., there is already a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for several counties along the North Dakota border until 9 p.m. Damaging winds and hail are the biggest concern, but isolated tornadoes are also possible. Central and southern portions of the state could also see a few isolated strong storms overnight Thursday and into Friday.

Much of the state sees mostly cloudy skies, with scattered showers and storms into early Friday. The brunt of the precipitation moves out by Friday morning, with any lingering showers or storms clearing out of western Minnesota by late morning, and eastern Minnesota by afternoon.

Much of the state will see relatively light precipitation, with higher amounts likely in western and southern Minnesota.

The weekend turns quieter again, with dry skies likely Saturday and only spotty chances for afternoon showers or storms Sunday.

June ends hot

The cold front that is bringing the storms cools parts northern parts of Minnesota slightly, with a few 70s for Friday, while the rest of the state stays in the 80s. The entire state bounces right back into the 80s by Saturday, with a few 90s by Sunday.

After that, next week stays above average, with most of the highs in the 80s and 90s. That means June ends like it started, with hot weather firmly in place. This June is likely to go into the record books as the hottest June in Minnesota since 1995!
