Severe storms early Monday morning produced 84 mph wind gusts and tree damage in Benson, Minnesota at 2:55 AM.

Severe risk through Monday night
Our atmosphere over Minnesota is primed for another round of potentially severe storms through Monday night. There is a slight risk for storms with large hail and damaging winds through Monday night.

A few storms could fire late this afternoon, but most of the short-range forecast models favor storms developing this evening north of the Twin Cities and working southeast.
NOAA’s WRF model favors a cluster of storms developing and moving through the greater Twin Cities area between about 9 and 11 pm Monday night.

Other models vary on storm timing and location tonight but agree on the general idea of storms developing after dark and impacting the Twin Cities area through about midnight.
Stay tuned for possible severe weather watches and warnings, especially Monday night.
Heat advisory
The fuel for our storm threat tonight comes in the form of tropical heat and humidity. A heat advisory is in effect through 9 pm across much of southern Minnesota. Heat index values may top 100 degrees across southern Minnesota.

Check out our sky early this week in between storms. Our milky white daytime sky and vivid reddish sunsets are the results of wildfire smoke aloft from those massive California wildfires. A wave of thicker smoke aloft likely drifts across Minnesota Tuesday.
