as Morrison Family Director of the Institute for Freedom and Community Edmund Santurri?Political philosopher Michael J. Sandel of Harvard University believes that America needs to renew the dignity of work, and emphasize the many contributions to society that we can each make — and reward those contributions fairly.
He's written about these ideas in a new book, "The Tyranny of Merit: What's Become of the Common Good?"
He adds that reversing “the meritocratic imbalance is at the heart of democracy,” as is seriously considering the meaning of “the good life.”
Sandel spoke in early March, by remote connection, at the St. Olaf College Institute for Freedom and Community. The moderator is Morrison Family Director of the Institute for Freedom and Community Edmund Santurri.
