Our next wintry weather system blows mainly across northern Minnesota Thursday. A low-pressure system will track through the state from the northwest.

The bulk of the snow will fall north and east of Interstate 94. Note the most consistent snow zone in northern Minnesota with a lighter mix of rain and snow showers along and south of I-94:

Overall snowfall totals favor a range of 1 to 3 inches just northeast of I-94, with heavier snow between 3 and 7 inches as you move into northern Minnesota. The Twin Cities could see a light dusting.

A winter storm watch is already posted for parts of northeastern Minnesota along the North Shore near Grand Marais.

...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 7 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Southern Cook County. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Grand Portage Reservation.

* WHEN...From Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter storm watches, warnings, and advisories may expand across parts of northern Minnesota later Wednesday in the updated National Weather Service late afternoon forecast packages.

Mild again Thursday for southern Minnesota

Thursday brings another mild day south of the low-pressure track. Highs will stay in the snowy 20s up north. But check out the 30s once again in the Twin Cities. Highs will soar well into the 40s once again in increasingly snow-free areas of southwestern Minnesota:
