Temperatures will again be in the upper 80s Thursday across southern and western Minnesota but with higher dew points. A cool front will touch off an isolated thunder chance Friday.
A hot start to September, comfortable weekend
Thursday will be just as warm as yesterday but with the addition of higher dew points creeping up into the ‘sticky’ 60s.

A cool front will sweep across Minnesota from northwest to southeast Friday touching off an isolated thunder chance but they’ll be few and far between.

Behind the cool front temperatures will be more seasonable Saturday into Monday, mainly in the 70s and low 80s, though parts of northeast Minnesota will see just upper 60s Saturday.

Overnight lows Saturday and Sunday nights will be downright cool across central and northern Minnesota into northwest Wisconsin, into the 40s with 50s in southern Minnesota.

Record breaking heat in the southwest United States
While Wednesday’s high temperature of 89 in the Twin Cities is in the top 9 percent for this time of year, it’s nothing like the heat wave blasting the southwest, including California and Nevada.

Death Valley, which holds the hottest (reliable) recorded temperature on earth of 134 degrees in July, could see temperatures exceed 120 degrees Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Some forecasts have called for temperatures near 123 to 126 degrees. 123 degrees is the all-time record high in September for Death Valley, and 126 is the all-time highest temperature ON EARTH in September.
