More records will fall Thursday in the April heat wave. Temperatures will be back in the mid to upper 80s across southern Minnesota. Northern Minnesota sees clouds and scattered showers along with cooler temps. Expect rain, snow and colder temperatures for the weekend.
Hot, windy; red flag warnings again Thursday
More record temperatures will fall Thursday. In the Twin Cities, we’ve broken another warm low temperature record early Thursday. The low was 65, breaking the record of 59 set in 1941.
The Twin Cities region shattered the record high Wednesday, reaching 88 degrees. The old record was 83 in 1931. Rochester and Eau Claire, Wis., also set record highs. Temperatures reached 90 in Faribault, Red Wing, Mankato and Owatonna.
Thursday will see highs range from the 80s in southern Minnesota — with perhaps a 90 or two again — to just 40s in northwestern Minnesota.

The warm, windy and dry conditions have prompted red flag warnings for critical fire conditions Thursday afternoon. Wind gusts will be high again across southern Minnesota.
Relative humidity values will drop into the 15 to 25 percent range through the afternoon and early evening.
Northern Minnesota will see some scattered showers, more clouds along with the cooler temperatures Thursday into Friday.
It’ll be warm again Friday for much of southern Minnesota and dry until late Friday evening and overnight in the Twin Cities and southeastern Minnesota.
Showers expand into the weekend
Temperatures drop Saturday as our storm system expands showers across Minnesota.
Look for cold rain showers late Friday night into Sunday morning for much of the state.
It’s possible to see some patch snowfall early Sunday in scattered spots around Minnesota as the much colder air sets in.
Sunday will be chilly with highs mainly in the 30s, 40s and low 50s along with the rain and snow showers. Total weekend precipitation will be more than one-half inch for much of Minnesota.
Sunshine returns Monday and high temperatures by Tuesday are back to warmer readings for most of the region.
