Tuesday will be a fine summer day just about statewide across Minnesota. Afternoon highs will be mainly from the mid 70s to low 80s, but cooler near Lake Superior. The Twin Cities should warm to about 83 with a light southwest breeze. Dew points will remain quite dry for July.
However, wildfire smoke has returned to northwestern Minnesota. Air quality has become unhealthy for sensitive groups (orange) as of Tuesday morning from around Bemidji up to Roseau.
An air quality alert for hazardous levels of fine particulates has been issued for a large area of northwestern Minnesota until 10 p.m. on Tuesday and might be continued beyond that time.

Low pressure and its cold front will advance across the Dakotas on Tuesday. Numerous thunderstorms will develop with the heating of the day. Some storms are likely to become severe. A slight (level 2 of 5) risk of severe weather has been posted for much of eastern North Dakota for Tuesday. Some strong storms could leak into western Minnesota late Tuesday evening. A marginal (level 1) risk of severe weather has been extended into the westernmost Minnesota counties for late Tuesday evening.
Storms farther into Minnesota Tuesday night and Wednesday
Scattered showers and storms are likely to track across Minnesota Tuesday night.
By Wednesday morning, the cold front will be approaching western Minnesota.
Warm, moist air will get drawn into Minnesota ahead of the front. The Twin Cities should warm into the upper 80s on what will become a muggy Wednesday.
Some storms could become severe in the afternoon or evening in response to the heating. A marginal risk of severe storms has been issued for most of Minnesota for the afternoon and evening hours.
Dry, cooler Thursday
Thursday will be dry, breezy and cooler behind the passing cold front.
The heat returns, especially next week
Temperatures will warm through the weekend.
Next week looks toasty. The Twin Cities are likely to heat up into the low 90s on Monday.
