Monday will see muggy air return and heat surge into southern Minnesota while northern Minnesota remains cloudier and cooler with a few showers. Tuesday and Wednesday will see heat spread a bit more north.
Excessive heat potential this week
Monday will still be relatively pleasant for central and northern Minnesota, but the heat will build into southern Minnesota. A sharp temperature contrast will set up from south to north for Monday and the next few days.
A few showers and a mix of clouds and sun north of the warm front will be present in northern Minnesota also. Southern Minnesota will see heat index values in the triple digits mainly southwest of the Minnesota River.
On Tuesday the hot and humid air advances north a bit more, to include the Twin Cities and portions of central Minnesota.
Heat index values Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the triple digits across the southern third or so of Minnesota before the heat breaks by the end of the week. Most showers chances will be confined to the north, well ahead of the warm front while central and southern Minnesota bake.
