An intense upper-level heat dome across the central United States is pumping near-record heat this week into Minnesota.
The excessive heat warning for central and southern Minnesota continues through Thursday at 7 p.m.
Heat index values will peak around 100 degrees in parts of southern Minnesota Tuesday afternoon. (See the map at top of the post.)
Temperatures as of early Tuesday afternoon have already soared well into the 90s across much of Minnesota. Dew points are in the tropical 70s to jungle-like 80-degree range across southern Minnesota. The dew point in Mankato has already hit 80 degrees.

In the Twin Cities, the heat index has hit 107 degrees as of this post time. It was already 104 degrees early Tuesday afternoon.
The highest dew points in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees will drift across Minnesota through Tuesday evening.
Minnesota is riding the northern edge of this intense heat dome. Highs will push 100 degrees Tuesday in parts of southern Minnesota, but it’s pretty nice up north!
The core of the most intense heat will shift slightly south Wednesday.
The Twin Cities has only hit 100 degrees in August seven times in the past 150 years of weather records.
Cooler air will begin to blow into Minnesota late Thursday through Friday. Highs should fall back into the 70s by next weekend.
