Investigators reportedly found methamphetamine in the home of a Benton County man charged with shooting several law enforcement officers earlier this month.
On Oct. 12, law enforcement officers and members of the Sherburne County Drug Task Force tried to serve a search warrant at a home in rural Princeton, Minn., where 64-year-old Karl Holmberg and his wife lived. The task force had been tipped off that the couple allegedly was selling meth.
Holmberg is accused of shooting at the officers. Five officers were shot and wounded. All survived their injuries.
Two officers returned fire, and one fired a less-lethal round. Holmberg was taken into custody.
In another search warrant made public this week, investigators searching the home after the shooting said they found a crystal substance that field-tested positive for meth. They also found digital scales, a handgun and a short-barreled shotgun.
Holmberg faces 12 counts, including first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault against a police officer. His next court hearing is Dec. 20.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the use of force.
