Snow has turned to rain in southern Minnesota as warmer air is drawn into the storm. Expect periods of rain Monday from the Twin Cities to the south. Heavy snow will continue in northern Minnesota and the North Shore.
Rain, snow continue in messy spring storm
Our messy spring storm system continues through Monday and Tuesday. This time we have the addition of warm air in southern Minnesota which has turned snow to rain.
We picked up 8.2 inches of snow at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, making it our biggest snow this season. West Duluth picked up 10.5 inches.
Expect periods of rain in southern Minnesota through the day Monday into Monday night with heavy snow north and along the North Shore.

Blizzard warnings persist into Tuesday along the North Shore with winter storm warnings for central and northern Minnesota. Northwestern Minnesota is under a winter weather advisory.
In addition to the precipitation, it will be rather windy Monday into Tuesday. Winds will range from 15 to 30 mph with gusts over 40 mph, especially west and near Lake Superior.
Temperatures will start to drop late Monday night into Tuesday morning. This could lead to potential ice accumulation for some areas where temperatures slip below freezing.
The rain will turn back to snow Tuesday, resulting in additional snowfall accumulations for southern and eastern Minnesota.
Total additional snowfall will be greatest north and along the North Shore.
Importantly, the additional precipitation is really needed and could be substantial. Up to one inch of liquid equivalent could additionally fall into early Tuesday. This moisture will help take many parts of the state out of drought.
It’ll be colder behind the storm Wednesday, but temperatures will rebound to near-normal levels with highs in the 40s this weekend.
