Democrat, Republican experts weigh in on primary election results, look to fall challenges

Incumbents fared well in the Minnesota Primary Election Tuesday, with Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, Michelle Fischbach, Brad Finstad, Pete Stauber, Tom Emmer and Sen. Amy Klobuchar all hanging onto their Congressional seats despite partisan challengers. Statewide races, too, favored seated representatives and senators.

However, a special election for the only state senate seat on November’s ballot, a former professional basketball player advancing to face off against Klobuchar and a conservative shakeup in Craig’s district are catching attention.

Attorney and Democratic political analyst Abou Amara and Paul Anderson, a GOP party operative and former Republican state senator who represented Senate District 44 in the Plymouth area, joined MPR News host Cathy Wurzer to parse the primary results and what they both expect to be expensive campaigns ahead of Nov. 5.
