There’s a relatively low, marginal risk (level 1 of 5) of severe weather in southwest Minnesota with storms that do develop. Most of the activity will be garden-variety.
While the risk of severe weather is low, heavy rainfall could be possible in some places. There will be a broad one inch or more of rainfall across southern Minnesota into western Wisconsin.
While most will see between 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, most models hint at the possibilty if not likelihood of some locally heavier amounts. The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s North American Model (NAM) is producing some 3 inch or higher amounts in a few isolated pockets of southern Minnesota.
There’ll be lingering instability both Thursday and Friday afternoon with some pop-up spotty showers and thunder possible. It’ll also be cooler, mostly in the 70s for highs, due to the increased cloud cover. The weekend looks mostly dry and pleasant.
