Law enforcement cleared a Minneapolis encampment Monday after a man was killed in a shooting.
The Minneapolis Police Department says officers responded to an encampment on the 3300 block of Third Avenue South just after 5 p.m. They found a 33-year-old man injured on the sidewalk nearby. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died.
Police say they believe a fight broke out at the encampment and led to gunfire. Law enforcement evicted the encampment later Monday evening.
Police chief Brian O’Hara said in a statement that the encampment was cleared for the safety of the neighborhood.
“The loss of life resulting from someone resorting to gun violence during an altercation has impacted yet another neighborhood in Minneapolis,” O’Hara said. “This senseless loss of life is a harsh reminder of the violence that continues to be all too common.”
No arrests have been made.
