Another warm, muggy day with storm chances increasing into Thursday

We’ll have yet another very warm and muggy day Wednesday with some spotty showers and storms. A better chance of storms develops overnight and late Thursday ahead of a cool front.

Look for another very warm and occasionally muggy day Wednesday. Highs will be well into the 80s for much of the state along with muggy dew points in the 60s.

There will be a few spotty showers and thunderstorms early Wednesday with a better chance of more developing north and west later in the day. Eastern Minnesota will have a decent chance of storms developing late Wednesday night as a low-level jet (winds 4,000 feet up) accelerates, transporting warm and humid air north.

While storms today look isolated to spotty later in the day, one or two that do develop could become strong to severe. There’s a slight risk (level 2 of 5) of severe weather Wednesday into Wednesday night for southwest Minnesota.

Much of the day Thursday will be dry and warm again ahead of a cool front. Highs will be back into the 80s across southern Minnesota.

Storms will develop ahead of the cool front late in the afternoon and evening Thursday and track east along and ahead of the front into Thursday evening.

Storms that do develop could become strong to severe. There’s a slight risk (level 2 of 5) for severe storms for portions of central and eastern Minnesota.

Dew points will finally drop going into Friday, making for a more comfortable day, but it will still be warm with highs near 80 in southern Minnesota. Another system could bring more showers for the second half of the weekend and bring cooler air.
