Minnesotans expecting a crisp shift to the fall are seeing summer cling to the state as the average temperature of September, so far, is the third highest in state history. According to meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley, climate stations are recording temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees Fahrenheit above normal.
The heat also comes with dry weather as parts of south western Minnesota officially re-entered drought for the first time in months.
In the last 20 days, average rainfall has been less than a quarter inch. Yet it’s not all bad: According to Seeley, northern parts of the state received around 1 to 2 inches of rain.
MPR New host Cathy Wurzer talked dry heat and fall weather with Seeley in their weekly weather chat.
