Chilly high pressure has settled in behind the weekend system. High temperatures will be cooler Monday and Tuesday, but near normal. The next chance of rain develops Wednesday.
Cooler to start the week with more rain possible midweek
Slightly chillier air has settled in for Monday and Tuesday behind the weekend system that brought light rainfall. Highs will be mostly in the mid-40s south to near 40 in the north Monday with decreasing clouds. High pressure will give us a bright day for the most part.
While cooler, these temperatures are actually near normal. The clear skies and cooler air mass will lead to a night below freezing Monday night for pretty much all of the state for the first time in several days.
Tuesday will yield more sunshine and seasonable temperatures. The next system will be moving in from the west coast Monday to Minnesota by late Tuesday night into Wednesday. It will bring light rain and even the possibility of a little snow north.
We could get a nice light to moderate rainfall soaking into the soils. A swath of about one-half inch of rain could fall for central and southern Minnesota. Much of Minnesota remains 2 to 4 inches behind for the past 60 days for precipitation.
The later part of the week will see a return to above-normal temperatures with highs in the 50s and 40s once again. A 60 can’t be ruled out in parts of southwest Minnesota Friday.
The six to 10-day and eight to 14-day temperature and precipitation outlooks call for continued above normal temperatures overall and above normal precipitation overall.
