You may have read my earlier post about our chances for snow next week. It might be one of those years where we can say winter weather started for real on a certain day. This year it could be next Wednesday, Nov. 20.
In the meantime, we’re enjoying some light November rain as I type this post on a late Wednesday afternoon. It’s already dark at the Weather Lab and feels more like midnight than suppertime.
Our shades of November gray linger on Thursday. The day looks mostly cloudy again, with maybe a few sunny peeks. High temperatures will hold in the 40s Thursday.
Friday through Sunday bring increasing sunshine to Minnesota. Highs on Friday and Saturday will run well into the 50s in most of Minnesota.

Sunday looks cooler with a cold front bringing cooler temperatures from the north.
The Wednesday afternoon model runs I’m looking at continue the trend of rain to wind-driven snow next week. Just to give you an idea of what we’re dealing with as forecasters here’s NOAA’s 18Z GFS model run for next Monday into Thursday. This likely won’t verify precisely (understatement) but the notion of rain to potentially plowable snow seems growingly likely.
So enjoy these next five relatively mild November days. A week from today things look dramatically different if current forecasts hold. And it could be an abrupt and persistent seasonal change.
Stay tuned.
