Clipper system brings snow showers late Sunday

Sunday will see persistent low-lying cloud cover, with temperatures reaching the low 40s. A clipper system will bring snow showers to the Iron Range and North Shore, with lighter snowfall expected as far south as central Minnesota.

The first of two cold fronts will approach tonight from the Canadian Provinces, bringing a chance for snow showers, particularly to the North Shore and Iron Range. Precipitation will generally stay north of Interstate 94, with less than an inch of accumulation possible near St. Cloud. The Twin Cities may experience a rain/snow mix late Sunday into early Monday, though minimal accumulation is expected.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for northeastern Minnesota from 10 p.m. Sunday night until 2 p.m. Monday afternoon. Lake effect snow showers and higher terrain are expected to produce snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches in some areas.

Chilly, calm week ahead

Arctic air will follow the first cold front late Sunday night, causing temperatures to drop into the 20s and 30s. Overnight lows early in the week are expected to reach the teens across the state.

This week will see some rare November sunshine, a contrast to last week. Expect occasional peeks of sunshine starting late Monday, with more breaks in the clouds continuing on and off throughout the week.

The Thanksgiving forecast looks cold and breezy, with highs in the upper 20s and northwest winds picking up behind our second cold front. While the front is expected to pass through dry, there’s a slight chance of light snowflakes Wednesday and Turkey Day. Temperatures will drop into the single digits Thursday night, with low teens expected in the metro area. Breezy winds and temperatures in the teens will make for a very cold Black Friday morning, with sub-zero wind chills possible. Brrr...
