Roseville man charged after police pursuit ends in crash, killing one

A Roseville man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing police by car, ending in a crash that killed another driver.

According to charges filed in Ramsey County Monday, Roseville police attempted to pull over Nicholas Price on Friday. His ex-girlfriend had called police to report that he had assaulted and threatened her at his home earlier that day.

Police spotted his car heading east on County Road B in Roseville just before 10:30 p.m. They attempted a traffic stop, but Price allegedly sped away. Officers followed about half a mile behind after initially losing sight of the car, with help from the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.

Price crashed into another car at the intersection of Edgerton Street and Bellwood Avenue near Forest Lawn cemetery.

First responders extracted the 61-year-old driver from the other car. He was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries. His name has not yet been released.

Price was arrested at the scene and taken to the hospital for treatment of a suspected broken leg sustained in the crash.

Price told investigators he thought he was going 80-90 miles per hour when he crashed; the posted speed limit is 30.

Price is facing charges for allegedly threatening and assaulting his ex-girlfriend, and for fleeing police and vehicular homicide. He is also currently pending trial on three separate previous felony charges in Ramsey County, including motor vehicle theft, stalking and assault.

He denied his ex-girlfriend’s allegations of assault and threats when speaking to investigators after the crash, according to charging documents.

The incident was the second fatal crash linked to a police pursuit in the Twin Cities in the last week.
