St. Paul police arrested a person late Monday for allegedly firing a gun at an officer.
According to a press release from the St. Paul Police Department, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop around 11 p.m. near Central Avenue and Chatsworth Street. The driver of the car fled.
Another officer located the car driving about a mile away and followed it for several blocks. Police say the driver shot at the officer while driving west on St. Anthony Avenue. The officer reported seeing the back window of the person’s vehicle shatter.
Authorities say police did not return fire, and no one was injured.
Officers kept pursuing until the vehicle eventually crashed into a parked car on the 800 block of Fuller Avenue. The driver tried to walk away from the crash, but officers arrested them. Officers searched the car and an AR-15-style rifle inside.
The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation after the crash. They were shortly released and booked into the Ramsey County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder, fleeing police and illegal possession of a firearm.
