Seasonal temperatures are returning following our arctic freeze, with highs expected to reach the 20s and even 30s in southern Minnesota. Flurries are possible with a brief cooldown on Thursday, followed by a warming trend into the weekend.

We're waking up to temperatures above zero statewide! After enduring 65 hours of subzero temperatures and some of the coldest air since February 2021, it's a welcome change.

Warmer southerly winds will bring seasonal temperatures back to the forecast. Highs expected in the 20s with 30s returning for southern Minnesota. Northern Minnesota will stay a bit cooler, in the teens.

Northern Minnesota will see several inches of snow Wednesday as a clipper system quickly propagates through. Meanwhile, the metro area will likely experience just light flurries with this system.

A cold front will sweep through Wednesday night behind the clipper, briefly cooling us down for Thursday. Temperatures will remain above zero during this time, with highs hovering in the single digits and teens.

As we head into Friday and the weekend, a warmer air mass will move in. Forecast highs are expected to range from the teens in the north to near 30 in southern Minnesota. Another clipper system on Friday will bring 1 to 2 inches of snow near the international border.

Sorry, snow lovers. It looks like January will wrap up with just a few small chances for snow, likely accumulating only one-tenth of an inch or so.
