Very mild with snow showers north Monday

Very mild temperatures will prevail this week. Two clipper systems will bring snowfall mainly to northeastern Minnesota.

We’re in for a very mild week. Highs Monday will range from near 40 in southwestern Minnesota to near 30 northeast. Those readings are 10 to 20 degrees above normal.

It’ll also be windy Monday from the west at 10 to 20 mph. Higher wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph will be likely in southwestern Minnesota.

There are wind advisories posted for southwestern Minnesota and the North Shore Monday.

The winds will howl even stronger over Lake Superior. Wind gusts could be as high as 60 mph in the middle of the big lake.

The first of two clipper systems will bring snow showers to mostly northern Minnesota Monday with a few flurries south. More snow showers will develop Tuesday with a second clipper system, confined primarily to northeastern Minnesota.

Up to several inches of fresh snow could fall in the Arrowhead region. If you’re looking for any snow in southern Minnesota you’re out of luck once again this week.

The pattern remains mild all week with potentially even warmer temperatures by Thursday. Temperatures will average about 15 degrees above normal this week (Monday through Friday).

There are signs of a cool down for early next week. The eight to 14-day temperature outlook calls for higher odds of below normal temperatures heading into early February. At this point, the cold doesn’t look as bad as what we experienced last week.
