Minneapolis police are responding to a shooting near 15 East Grant Street near the Convention Center in downtown. The city says multiple people have been injured, including two police officers.

Seven people were taken to the hospital; one is dead, an HCMC spokesperson told MPR News. No other information was immediately available.

City officials are asking people to avoid the area of 12th Street to Franklin Avenue and Hennepin Avenue to 3rd Avenue South to allow emergency personnel to respond. 

MPR News reporter Matt Sepic is on the scene. He says the focus is near the convention center and saw officers with long guns and a SWAT team.

Police moved back the perimeter several blocks saying the scene was not yet clear. Sepic says dozens of emergency vehicles have come to the scene.

On social media, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said the state public safety team was responding. “State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement and we will share more information as it becomes available. Minnesota is praying for our first responders,” he wrote.

The FBI says it’s also responding to assist local authorities.
