The man who police say shot and killed two people and injured six others, including three police officers, was in the process of being evicted from the apartment building where the shooting occurred.

According to court records, Loring Towers, now known as Shoreline Plaza, filed an eviction complaint against Carlton Johnson II in June.

The complaint cited multiple instances of violent and threatening behavior since the beginning of the year, including assaulting a resident on the apartment premises, walking around the apartment block with a gun "displayed on his person" to multiple staff members while other residents were present, threatening a resident with a gun, and telling residents he planned to kill someone.

In June, a resident of the apartment building who lived a floor above Johnson filed a restraining order against him, claiming that he had been physically assaulted and threatened with a handgun by Johnson.

"I'm afraid to enter and exit my apartment in fear for my safety and wellbeing," the other resident wrote in the request for the restraining order.

The eviction case was still ongoing when the shooting occurred. A trial date was set for Sept. 11.

Johnson died during the shooting. Authorities have not yet released information on his cause of death.
