Meet Nicole Johnson

Nicole Johnson is an associate digital producer at MPR News.  

Born and raised in Peru, Nicole moved to the United States —​ and Minnesota —​ in 2021 and joined MPR News in 2022. Before moving to the U.S., Nicole worked as a reporter and commercial and digital marketing advisor​ at the Peruvian Chamber of Tourism. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she worked as a digital marketing contractor for a Peruvian tourism outlet. After relocating to the U.S., she worked as a freelance translator and copywriter for the online platform Crowd Content.  

Nicole was awarded an Eric Sevareid​ Award from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association in 2023 for her work on Climate Cast. She has a bachelor’s degree in communications with minors​ in journalism and corporate communication from the University of Lima, and a master’s degree in digital journalism from Middlesex University London.  

Nicole loves to explore the North Shore, her favorite season in Minnesota is fall and tater tot hot dish changed her life.
